Upgrading from an old style Folger Adam 120 Series Lock built between the 1940's and 1987 to a new Retro-Lock Series Lock Folger Adam Security announces production of it's - 120EMLL Retro-Lock series upgrade. The Locks being built are an exact replacement for the old style 120 series locks built between the 1940's and 1987. Retro-Locks will replace old style 120 locks with out having to replace the frame or cut in a new lock pocket. This is a great cost advantage when replacing a cellblock full of locks. 122 locks are keyed on the cover side only and 126 locks are keyed both sides The Retro-Lock will have several new features. A plug connector and field receptacle will come as standard for the pockets that will accept it. The internal operating and deadlock levers are stainless steel for additional strength. The roller-bolt and dead-latch also are being cast from stainless steel. All locks are now built corrosion resistant. Locks are available with your choice of Mogul or Maxi-Mogul cylinders in US4 or 26D finish. All locks are built as 3" deep models. How Do I Know I am Looking at an "Old Style" 120 Series Lock? The Introduction of the Folger Adam #120EMLL Retro lock offers us an excellent opportunity to provide owners replacement locks for the "old style" version of the #120 series lock. The old style version was manufactured between 1947 and 1987 and due to the unique case size of this generation of locks, current production models will not fit the hollow metal preps without substantial frame modifications. This becomes labor intensive and cost prohibitive. The #120EMLL Retro lock is an exact replacement making it an effective and cost friendly means of updating a facility with new locks. As you know, the #120 Series lock is mounted within a lock pocket hidden behind a lock pocket cover plate. So without taking the cover plate off how do you know you are looking at the old style generation of this series lock? Here are a couple of tips that will help confirm the version is the old style: If the facility was built before 1987, it would have used the older generation of locks. If the keying is the mogul key with the cloverleaf type bow, that could be an indicator. If built before 1987 and using the older mogul key, it's a definite. If the frame has a "bustled" out portion of the lock pocket cover plate; it is the older version. Some of the older hollow metal frame preps actually miltered the lock pocket around the lock. The lock pocket was just large enough to contain the lock itself. This would indicate an old style lock. If you can remove the cover and measure the lock itself, that is the best confirmation. The old style #120EMLL lock measured 4-3/16" wide, and either 3" or 3-7/8" deep. A couple of other indicators, the model number may be hand written on the lock in black marker. And the best confirmation is if the lock is painted in a pale green primer! Although later production models used the same red primer we currently use today, the very early production runs used the green primer . It is important to remember that the retro lock is only available in the "E" or solenoid version at this time. The market demand on this lock was primarily solenoid when first introduced and the majority of the locks in the field are solenoids.
